Noni’s “chilled” prescription…

Dear Miller Coors:
I have been advised by your webpage to make contact through your e-mail address.

My mother, Naomi (Noni) Cardwell has had a very full life of daily enjoying Miller High Life… her personal alcoholic beverage of choice. As her son of 56 years, I have never witnessed her inebriated or out of control. She has taught me the same approach. She has been the epitome of “drink responsibly” and the “awareness program of social behavior” well before the slogan was ever birthed.
Noni is a big fan of Wendell and you can see Noni photos @ …

The History of the Request:
My mother Noni has suffered with onset dementia since a car wreck in 2001 and has been at Forest Heights Alzheimer Ward in Winston Salem, NC for the last 3 years. She has been very active for a woman of 98 years. Over the last several months she has lost weight and strength and currently is wheelchair bound. The onset was due to a 2 week bout with pneumonia. The professional staff believes she can recover with time, but there is an urgent need to “bulk her up for strength purposes”. One diagnosis is that she has forgotten how to swallow… and is losing weight, about 18% as of today. Currently we have skilled help working with her speech and muscle therapy, which is covered by Medicare. While contemplating the next steps in her recovery… I remembered how depressed she was when we had to first place her in a facility. It was because there were rules forbidding alcoholic beverages.

In speaking with her Doctor, he agreed to write a prescription/script of 3 cold/chilled beers per day to be administered by staff @ lunch/mid-afternoon/dinner which would require staff participation and give my wife some relief of the 45mi of travel back and forth each day.

The current cost for Noni’s housing and meals is nearly $4k per month which uses up her monthly financial resources.

The Request:
There is no Medicare or Health care coverage for the Doctor’s prescription… which comes to 21 beers (7oz size) a week or 84 beers a month… which is 14 six packs/mo. I am requesting help of any kind to defray the cost to her. I am currently trying to cut costs by seeing if the facility would refrigerate a small or even large keg for her. The prescription does say “chilled”.

Please consider some means of generosity to a life long responsible supporter. She even has a recipe for “Miller High Life Beer Bread” which she and my dad, “Lefty,” perfected. It worth putting it on your cans!

Of course a dream scenario would be Wendell coming by to see her and sharing a pony… and a “medical emergency supply” until the Doctor’s orders change.

Thank you for your time and consideration of this unique request.
I am…
